Some people get spring fever. I definitely get autumn fever. It's my favorite time of year. Just the crisp scent of autumn in the air sends a rush of happiness and anticipation through me. There's nothing like watching a fall sunset on your way home in the evening, or waking to a brisk day with a view of mountains decorated by trees covered in colorful leaves.
Now is about the time I start unpacking most of my Halloween decorations. Some I leave up all year round, but others take up too much space, such as the Halloween village I add to every season. My family is already planning our annual Halloween party, deciding what to cook and what costumes to wear. Halloween is also a time for remembrance of those who are no longer present. For me baking special cookies in their memory is a way of doing this.
As a reader and a writer, I find autumn and Halloween season inspiring. As a way of sharing this I have an annual Halloween page at my website that authors can contribute to and hopefully readers enjoy.
Maybe because my mother was born on Halloween and it was a holiday we enthusiastically celebrated, but it has always meant so much to me and it's a day I look forward to all year long.
How do you feel about Halloween? If you celebrate it, what are some of your favorite traditions? Do you have any special food you like on the holiday? My sister-in-law and I usually try to outdo each other by making disgusting and humorous dishes, like cookies shaped like fingers and punch with candy eyeballs floating in it.
However you enjoy the season, I hope you have a great one!
