What's the point...of view?

Most books (both "e" and paper) are written in third person.  Readers get to slip into the heads of several characters and you get to know just about everyone.  What's his motivation? Oh! That's in the next scene!  Hers? Keep on reading...

But, what about first person? You get to creep...and crawl...right into the main character's brain, hunt up their deepest, darkest secrets and see how they respond to all of the roadblocks the author throws in the way.

Personally, I love first person.  Both reading and writing.

So, what about you? The reader? The public at large and a writer's target audience?
