Romance lovers, is it hotter than blazes where you are? Has the latest romance novel you’ve read gotten you all hot and bothered, and there’s not enough ice to alleviate all that heat?

So, what is the state of ‘romance’ in romance novels? These days books run the gamut from heart-rendingly sweet to edgy erotic. That is the beauty of publishing now. The variety of romance subgenres is about to hit the moon. A very good thing in my book.

However, as a writer, I suddenly felt a sense of loss in the romance department. I yearned for a style of romance that has gone out of style in our current culture. And, being a born romantic, I had to remedy that with my next book. That’s when Kandace, my heroine, made herself known, and tempted me into writing her witchy story.

Kandy is a woman who discovers just how much she likes being wooed and elegantly romanced. During several scenes I also focus on that dreamy romantic feeling depicted in some of the late thirties and early forties songs.... I’m in heaven... dancing cheek to cheek... the way you wear your hat... you do that voodoo that you do so well... down, down I go... Cole Porter, and other songwriters of that era, were geniuses when it came to creating this romantically seductive and lovely mood.

This era’s elegance is part of the story, as well, along with the gentlemanly manners that are guaranteed to make a woman feel both cherished and desired. Okay, I didn’t leave out the magickal high adventure, either, or the fierce bedroom passion.

After all, why not have it all? Romance, high stakes adventure, paranormal magick, beastly desires... and, of course, a happily ever after.
