Vamp Tramp

Hello. I’m Amber. And I’m an admitted Vamp tramp. I love vampires. From the mystery, to the mystique, they thrill me. I cut my teeth on Nosferatu and Bram Stoker -- and yes, I was rooting for Dracula. To win.
But come on, what’s not to like? Dark. Edgy. Brooding.

Whether it’s a movie or a book, I’ll read it. (Certain books specifically made for young adults and teen angst aren’t necessarily included).

It amazes me to see where authors take the species and build the myths around vamps. And, by sales numbers, for their authors, vamps are still strong.

But as much as I love vamps, I never thought I’d write one.

Until last night. And book-idea-that’s-only-a-glimmer of a character, number three million, something and thirteen started shouting at me.

So, of course, I start writing the bits and pieces I can hear my muse shouting.

Then comes the surprise. The main character is a vampire.

Whoa.

I sat back, my pencil frozen above my notebook, wondering where in the world that came from. I never did get an answer for that...

So, on my long list of story ideas, I now have a vampire tale.

Will I write it? Not sure. It’s calling strongly right now, but 1) I have other work to do first, and 2) I like my ideas to simmer a while before I jump into them.

I have a few projects already lined up, requested by publishers. Those come first. But in a few months when I have the time, I’ll look at my list of ideas. And if it’s still calling to me, who knows, I might actually end up writing about vampires.

Q4U: What's your opinion of vampires?
