Peacock Daze

Deep in the heart of a rose filled garden, overpowered by an intoxicating perfume, a maiden is transported into a world of daydreams. As she drifts into a trance like state, she imagines herself adorned with peacocks and exotic flowers. She enjoys her fleeting moments of escapism.

Hi everyone, may the New Year bring you health, wealth and reading happiness. I have some big plans in the works for upcoming books during 2011, including a shapeshifter anthology. I also have a WIP that is close to being submission-ready.

Here’s a little ‘otherworld’ flash scene I wrote just because... well, I’ve always been partial to romantic fantasies.

Time to Romance the New Year

“Time to romance the New Year.”

Ztoth offered his arm and bent slightly toward the woman he had recently become enchanted with. More than enchanted, he admitted to himself. Damn near close to besotted. An uncomfortable position to be in for a man of his rank and station.

“You will pardon me, Regent, I find any mood of celebration has deserted me.”

Shequessa’s soft beautiful voice reminded him of the warmed honey he used nearly everyday in his beverages for stamina and flavor. Although, he had heard her righteous screechings, fierce as a wildcat, at the fool of a man who had deserted her, betrothing another.

“Perhaps, you would consider pleasing me with a dance. Romance is a clever minx, often sneaking upon one while enjoying the lyrical passion of the music.”

She glanced at him for moments he could count, yet time had become infinite while he gazed at her. The gorgeous facets of her eyes astounded him, and reflected the coloring of the handsome peacock she stroked as she sat upon the garden’s granite dais.

Ztoth couldn’t blame his birds for becoming unusually attached to her. Even now, they strutted around her, enjoying the remainder of the day as the sun blazed below the horizon.

“You would do well to find a livelier partner, Regent.”

The sadness underlying her tone, straight from her broken heart, cut to the core of his heart, and twisted it with no show of mercy. Such a woman should never be deprived of sweet healing counsel. Yet, here, on this intergalactic planet-station devoted to educational pursuits, she had no family.

“Perhaps, Shequessa.” At the use of her familiar name, her gaze flew to him, and Ztoth witnessed her fire, bright and scorching as if he soared too close to the sun in his star cruiser. “However, I wish the beauty of your form in my arms.”

Shock pillaged her at his boldness. It was there in her irresistible, stained-glass eyes, the eyes he dreamed about every night now. And, it lay upon the brazen sculpture that were her features. At the oddest moments, her face haunted him, and the overwhelming urge to kiss her ripe-as-cherries mouth stirred his manhood to undeniable life, to unrepentant desire.

“I must deny your improper pursuit, Regent.”

She resumed her delicate stroking of his peacock. Even so, the spirited tilt of her chin begged for the cup of his hand, then the brand of his lips upon hers. How his hand itched to obey his need.

His need! Her woman’s shape had been exquisitely designed for a man who knew his own power, and exercised it. As well, Ztoth knew her intelligence matched his own. And, how often had he admired the witty slice of her tongue? Rare, yet never sparing those who deserved the comeuppance.

“Then, you find my form less than adequate for your womanly passions.”

He had gambled. Would he win? Spying a peacock feather, one of splendid length and loveliness, he swept it up.

Her utter stillness beat hope inside his chest. Playing the feather over his fingertips, Ztoth indulged in the rounded swell of her breasts above the tightly cinched bodice of her gown. The white-shimmer fullness of her gown’s skirt draped around her, and she made an incomparable vision to his eye. It was one reason he had noticed her, above all others, upon her arrival at the planet-station he governed.

“Your form, Regent, is more than adequate. Quite in comparison to a war stallion in boldest rut. However, you should decide on another as a dancing partner.”

With his desire searing a fierce path through him, Ztoth touched her bosom with the jewel-like eye of the feather. Languidly, he brushed the feather’s fringes over the curve of her breast. His result became more than splendid as she heaved breaths of passion.

Now, he offered his hand. She did not gaze at him directly, Yet, her hand alighted within his, as gently as one of his doves.

“One turn upon the dance floor, Regent.”

Her breathy pronouncement only enticed him. And, to such a wicked degree, he mentally complimented his tailor on the strength of his evening attire in containing his mounting passion.
