It's a line from "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" One of my favorite lines, actually, and one of my favorite Peanuts holiday specials. Charlie Brown gets only rocks when he trick or treats.
I'm a Snoopy and Peanuts fan. I collect a lot of Snoopy stuff from slippers to little stuffed Snoopys. I put an inflatable Snoopy at Halloween and Christmas. I snoopy dance a lot with good news.
I think the biggest thing I like about Peanuts is that it does reflect back life so well. Happiness is a warm puppy. We can identify with Charlie Brown, the underdog as he trick or treats and winds up with all rocks. Apparently a lot of people sent him candy when the special first aired. We can identify with Snoopy as he channels Joe Cool or the hero, the WWI Flying Ace in his Sopwith Camel, trying to shoot down the Red Baron. Who hasn't always wanted to be cool or the hero? I know I'd always like to carry my security blanket with me like Linus or be as outspoken as Lucy.
Peanuts is 60 years old. For 60 years, they've been delighting old and new fans alike. As an author, I'd love for my works to still be so well remembered 60 years later.
Enjoy your countdowns to Halloween. And remember, if your pumpkin patch is sincere enough, you might get a visit from the Great Pumpkin.
