Howl at the Moon!

Halloween is just weeks away. The stores are filled with pumpkins and skeletons, witches and ghosts. The veil between our world and the world of spirit is thin and we can all feel it. The nights are long and the daylight hours grow shorter. There is a distinct chill in the air as well pull out blankets that have been stored away for the summer months.
On a crisp autumn night when the moon is full I can almost hear the wolves howling at the moon. The image is iconic and one that brings a spark of excitement and fear into our hearts. Werewolf! The myth and legend has been around for centuries. These creatures were feared by all and condemned by the church. People huddled inside on the night of the full moon, fearing to go outside lest they encounter one of these fearsome beasts.
These days, werewolves are vastly different creatures and have found their way into romance novels at your local bookstore. Why werewolves? Well, why not? Wolves are loyal and strong. There are always alpha males and females. They are sociable creatures with an established group order and dynamic. They live by their own laws, which are not those of man. They are vicious when it comes to protecting those they love. The possibilities are limitless. It’s no wonder writers can’t stop writing about them and readers can’t stop reading about them.

I’ll admit I wanted to write a werewolf book for years before I finally wrote one. When I finally decided it was time to sit down and write I met Alexandra Riley. She had no idea about her heritage but was about to find out in a big way. She’s a half-breed werewolf and her father is a werewolf. Imagine waking up one morning and finding out your entire life is a lie. Furthermore there are paranormal bounty hunters who want you dead, male wolves who want to mate with you and purist werewolves who want you dead. It’s enough to give a girl a headache. Throw in a hunky alpha-type male and protector in the form of Joshua Striker and you have the basis for Alexadnra's Legacy.
I had so much fun with that book and so much positive feedback from readers that I wrote Isaiah's Haven. This time there is a kickass heroine who is all werewolf and not afraid to do whatever it takes to protect her small pack. Action-packed and spicy, Isaiah and Meredith must learn to trust one another while dealing with outside threats. Both this book and Alexandra’s Legacy are available from Samhain Publishing.
I’ve got a few more werewolf books in me yet. I can’t seem to stop writing about these captivating creatures.
Do you enjoy werewolf books? If so, what are a few of your favorites?
N.J. has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
