Looking Forward

By Janet Quinn

Happy New Year.

This is the time of year to look back at the last year to see what you accomplished. Was it a good year or one you’d rather forget? Usually it is some of both. I could have done without the back problems. They slowed me down considerably.

On the other hand, I finally finished Sam – also known as Freedom’s Treasure. I sold it on December 31st and would have done a happy dance, except my back doesn’t allow happy dances. It is still thrilling to sell a book, even number 13. It will be out in June and I can hardly wait.

Now that the never-ending story (Sam) is finally done, it is time to look forward to the new year and what new projects I want to start. I have three books I want to write. One is a second Madigan mystery. One is a fantasy romance with two New York City police detectives. One is from our New York City and one is from an alternate universe where magic rules. The last one is an urban fantasy where the hero and heroine fight monsters. The first monster is a Chimera.

My sister wants me to write new Augeas stories. These are dark fantasy short stories set in the city of Augeas and the surrounding area. I have number seven partially done. The others have been sold as Whiskey Shots from Whiskey Creek Press and are on sale this month. Also, I am finishing putting together a booklet that has information about Augeas, biographies of the characters and art work of the characters. I will be giving away two booklets this month in a contest I am starting next weekend. Visit www.janet-quinn.com to find information.

At times, I would like to have Chewbaca’s life. He’s my spoiled dog. I put his Christmas presents on top of the refrigerator so he couldn’t reach them. He spent most of Christmas Eve sitting in front of the refrigerator staring at them, then staring at me. He wanted his new balls and that was all he cared about in the world. His last one had died a week and a half earlier. He got one present before anyone else. He was content to sit and squeak it while the rest of us opened our presents. Then he wanted someone to play catch with him.

To have his life.

Dogs who have people who love them do indeed have a great life. Chewbacca sounds very lucky!

I lost my little 7 pound Susie last year. She was 17 and full of puppy years. Now all my dogly needs are met by Mack the Wonder Dog, a terrier who can lie still for hours. (I said he was a wonder!)

Have a great 2010,
Emily
