Strange Bedfellows

When you hear certain words, you don't automatically think romance. Words like zombie, dragon, alien, and werewolf. Okay, maybe werewolves are coming into the mainstream of romance, sort of like vampires. When I was a kid, vampires were NOT romantic. Pop culture and writers like Feehan, Rice and others have brought out the romance in the undead, and the same has been happening with werewolves and other werecreatures in recent years.

I like to mix things up even more. Sure, I write about vampires and werecreatures, but I also have hunky aliens, shapeshifting dragon princes, and now... yes... zombies. My upcoming releases from Kensington Brava are "zombie romances" though I think that phrase is a misnomer because the zombies are definitely the bad guys in my books. I think of them more as military romances with a paranormal twist. The heroes are special ops soldiers - Navy SEALs, Army Green Berets, Marine Force Recon and the like. The heroines are different kinds of dynamic modern women. One is a county cop. Another is a Navy doctor. A third is a top research scientist.

There will be a series of 5 stories altogether - 2 novellas and 3 full length novels. The first novella comes out on December 29th in the duology HALF PAST DEAD. Then my first zombie romance novel hits the shelves in March, titled ONCE BITTEN, TWICE DEAD. I hope you'll look for them. Aren't the covers great?

I also mentioned dragons. There are a few authors out there writing different kinds of dragon romances. Where the dragons are shapeshifters or maybe there are dragons as supporting characters. I do both. My award winning Dragon Knights series continues this month with a dimension-travel twin menage called DRAGON STORM. Two hunky dragon princes (shapeshifters), travel through a magical storm and wake up in the forests of modern-day Oregon. Their adventure takes them to the mountains of Tibet and back to their own world, along with the love of their lives, a feisty female snowcat shifter who will bring magic and might back with her to the dragon world. DRAGON STORM will be available in ebook formats from Samhain Publishing on November 17th and in print in mid-2010.
