I don't know about you, but I'm still digesting all that Thanksgiving turkey. And I think it's still making me sleepy too! This year, my mother-in-law hosted Thanksgiving at her place, which is a relatively small apartment. Fortunately, we didn't have a huge crowd this year, so it was just cozy - not claustrophobic. She usually prides herself on her sweet potato casserole, which has pecans on top. But my son begged me to make my sweet potato casserole, which has the all-important marshmallow topping. I was really worried that this Thanksgiving would turn into The Battle of the Sweet Potato Casseroles. At first, my MIL said she was going to make her pecan-topped casserole anyway. I didn't mind, because frankly, I like hers better. I made just a small casserole because I figured it would mostly be my son eating it. Everyone else would go for the MIL-made pecan-topped casserole.
Then I showed up, and my mother-in-law had decided NOT to make her casserole at all, but hadn't bothered to tell me. So everyone scarfed up the Sweet Potato and Marshmallow Casserole in a matter of minutes and there was nothing left for seconds. Sigh. Family holidays can be like that.
I guess it was good that everyone was left wanting more. Better that than having everyone think they'd had too much of it. And at least there were no big fights - like the infamous Easter Dinner Rumble of 2000 (between my brother-in-law and me) or the shocking Thanksgiving Nightmare of 2002 in which one cousin questioned the paternity of another cousin's child and lots of people still aren't speaking to each other about that one.
So I'm just grateful we had a quiet holiday dinner and that absolutely nothing at all memorable happened this year.
What about you? Was your Thanksgiving dull or memorable? And which do you prefer???

There was an argument over paternity??? Whoa! Luckily I haven't seen anything that big for a while.
I'm a big sweet potato fan, so I would have been thrilled with two different casseroles. LOL My SIL's was the best she's ever made. I think I ended up eating most of it.
LOL we had a very quiet holiday and prefer it that way. Had fun with family and saw both sides.
