Why Does It Matter What Dress We Wear?

One day you come home from a long day at work and start to open the mail. The same old circulars, catalogs and bills are passing by until you see the large white envelope with your name handwritten on the front. It's an invitation to an event that requires you to dress up, go out and enjoy yourself. A party is exactly what you’ve been looking for…something to help shake off winter’s tight grip and let the sun back into your life. This particular function is guaranteed to be a blast and all you have to do is go to your closet and pick something fabulous to wear.

No problem, you have plenty of things you could wear…right?

Wrong!

After trying on everything you think would suit the party dress code and then some, you decide nothing fits like it did the last time you put it on. This doesn’t make sense because you’re sure you haven’t changed one bit. You also notice not one outfit is the right color or style even though they were when you purchased it. The final straw is when you notice you have not one thing that will be suitable for the event.

Oh man, now what?

Panic! No, don’t, it isn’t worth the energy. Maybe it’s easier if you just don’t go. No way, you’re not going to miss this party because you can’t find something in your closet. You could make something only back in school you failed the sewing part of Home Ec.

Okay, think seriously about this.

Why does it matter so much that you have on the perfect outfit? It’s only clothes. You could put on the last little black dress you bought, do your hair and make-up, slip on some sassy high heels and show up at the function ready to have fun with old friends and meet knew ones. So the dress isn’t exactly what you had in mind, no big deal. You give it a tug here and there, fidget with this strap or tug on the neckline, it’s fine because you aren’t naked…right?

Sorry but no, there’s more involved in what you choose to wear than covering yourself. This is one of the few things you can do to show who you are. Wearing something you like and are comfortable in can also help a person relax and then the fun times are all the more enjoyable.

So who does fashion better? Women! Hands down. They go all out trying to find the perfect accessories, shoes, and hair-do’s. Everything is done to ensure at least one person says, “Wow, you look fabulous tonight!” That alone makes all the fussing worthwhile.

So, tell me, what is your go-to outfit for that last minute party? Mine has just changed from my basic black dress with more cleavage than I normally show to a fire engine red number.
